Health, Housing and Social Services
The Health, Housing and Social Services Committee was off to a bit of a slow start this fall but we are encouraged to be connecting with committee members (new and old) and chatting through what our priorities should be in the upcoming season.
One of the community issues that we are aware of is the potential increase in crime in the neighbourhood. Ideally we are looking for someone in the community who would volunteer to spearhead the community association’s response and be our liaison with the city and our community officer around this issue. If you are interested in working with us in this way, please let us know.
We would like to thank Iva Apostolova for joining our committee and working with SWOOS (Seniors Watch Old Ottawa South) on issues regarding Aging in Place. She is an asset to our committee. It is helpful to have Glebe residents collaborating with some of the exciting projects that SWOOS is working on.
Affordable housing is a massive and complex issue. One of the needs we are currently identifying is finding supportive housing for people, particularly those with mental health challenges. If you have knowledge and experience in this area please let us know. The need in our city is overwhelming and we are considering if and how we should respond as a committee.
As the municipal election draws closer our committee is watching the mayoral race closely. Affordable housing has come to the forefront as one of the key issues. We anticipate lots of potential upcoming projects once our new mayor is elected. If you are interested in advocating for more affordable housing, please consider joining our committee: health@glebeca.ca

MOTIONS
Motion 1: that the GCA approve spending $377 USD ($534 CAD) + tax to renew the Board website for 3 years.
Context: The GCA website hosting is set to expire in November and needs to be renewed. We can renew for 1, 2 or 3 years, but there is a 30% discount if we do 3 years. The total would be $377 USD plus tax.
Be it resolved that the GCA allocate $377 USD ($534 CAD) + tax for three years of web hosting.
Motion 2: for the GCA to accept the budget for 2022-23 as presented.
