The city is almost ready to break ground on the planned parkette at the corner of Fifth and O’Connor (next to the Fire Station Number 12). The designs, including the idea that this be a park centred on the needs of senior citizens in particular, take into account ideas articulated by the committee and the community at various opportunities over the years since 2013 when the park was first proposed by the Committee and members of the community. Members of the Parks Committee also see the Glebe’s newest parkette as an opportunity for the City to work towards two important goals for our community: Reconciliation and a Carbon Neutral 2050 (see link below).
In the weeks ahead, the city and the GCA will be undertaking a process to arrive at a name for the new park. In the meantime, we invite members of the community to forward their suggestions to our email address:

Here are a couple of ideas that have emerged so far around our committee table:
Isumataq: a central Arctic Inuktitut word meaning, among other related ideas, “respected elder”.
Kitizìg: a word in Algonquin that expresses the idea of elders in plural.
Below is the Parks Committee’s feedback to the City’s public consultation on the Park’s design.
