Welcome, approval of the agenda and 2020 AGM minutes
Laura Smith opened the meeting with an Indigenous reconciliation acknowledgment. She recognized the elected representatives in attendance, as well as our community partners. The approval of the agenda was moved by William Price and seconded by Angus McCabe. The approval of the 2020 AGM minutes was moved by Caroline Warburton and seconded by June Creelman. Both the minutes and the agenda were approved.
The Honourable Catherine McKenna, Ottawa Centre MP
Minister McKenna spoke about the COVID-19 pandemic, its impact on our community, and what her office and the federal government have been doing to respond, including investments to retrofit schools and long-term care homes.
Joel Harden, Ottawa Centre MPP
Joel Harden spoke about the impact of COVID-19 on our community and what the provincial government is doing.
Shawn Menard, Capital Ward Councillor
Shawn spoke about the work that he and his office have done with the GCA. He spoke about the importance of reconciliation and community activism.
GCA President’s Report
Laura Smith highlighted some of the GCA’s work over the past year including: a virtual membership campaign; a virtual Great Glebe Garage Sale; advocacy on affordable housing, environment, Lansdowne and planning; and, pop-up art gallery at Lansdowne among other initiatives. Laura also thanked outgoing Board members.
GCA Financial Statements
Caroline Warburton presented the financial statements, and thanked Ted Lupinski and his staff for volunteering their services.
Caroline Warburton presented the motion for approval. The motion was moved by Caroline Warburton and seconded by Angela Keller-Herzog. All GCA committee members present voted to approve the motion, none opposed.
GCA Membership Report
Carol MacLeod presented the membership report. She spoke about this year’s membership drive, conducted largely online, and reported that there are approximately 400 members. The committee hopes to return to door-to-door canvassing following the COVID-19 pandemic.
GCA Bylaws
Let it be resolved that the members accept the updated Board of Directors Manual, including the GCA By-law, as approved by the GCA board in May 2021.
June Creelman presented the motion for approval. The motion was moved by June Creelman and seconded by John Crump. All GCA committee members present voted to approve the motion, none opposed.
Nominating Committee Report
June Creelman presented the 2021-22 Board slate.
The motion was moved by June Creelman and seconded by Anthony Carricato. All GCA committee members present voted to approve the motion, none opposed.
