The GCA Parks Committee has had several meetings over the last few months where, at the request of neighbours of Brown’s Inlet Park, we have heard about their concerns about protecting the park’s long-term health, usability, and culture. At the December Parks Committee meeting, neighbours came together again and, with collaboration from the community members present, the committee arrived at a plan to move forward on continued discussions, passed unanimously by the committee for the consideration of the GCA Board.

More discussions in the ensuing months led to a further amended motion passed again by the Parks Committee in February, for the GCA Board’s consideration. The Board passed the motion at its February 28, 2023 meeting.

The motion recommends to the City of Ottawa that there be a City-led process of public engagement on Brown’s Inlet Park to explore measured, data-driven solutions that will promote the long-term health and usability of the park for all residents. A city-led process would provide neighbors with the opportunity to continue this dialogue about the park with others, and most importantly, with City staff who have expertise in these matters.
