Community Pop-Up Art Gallery at Lansdowne Park

Have you been staring at your walls for the last few months thinking that you need something new to brighten them up? Since so many of us are working from home and staying in more, our walls have become a focal point of our lives. Now you have the opportunity to do something about those walls. A community pop-up art gallery has opened at Lansdowne Park featuring works by local artists!

The gallery at Lansdowne Park is a collaboration between the Glebe Community Association, the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group, the Glebe BIA and, of course, the participating artists from Glebe Art in Our Gardens and Studio Tour, which could not take place last summer. The artists worked with Anthony Carricato, Chair of the Glebe Community Association’s Lansdowne Committee, who reached out to Mark Goudie, President and CEO of the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group.

This community partnership is not only benefiting the artists, but it is also animating Lansdowne Park and offering residents an extra reason to visit Lansdowne and see a new and interesting destination during their walks through the neighbourhood. The timing, coming in the holiday season, couldn’t be better.

OSEG generously offered to lease the former Structube store at Lansdowne rent-free for the gallery — 225 Marche Way, Unit #102. The Glebe Community Association chipped in to cover the required insurance for the space, and the Glebe BIA kindly offered to pay for the utility costs.

The gallery features a wide range of artistic talent, from painters to photographers to glassworkers. There are landscapes, portraits, still lives, photos, glassworks, abstracts — you are sure to find something that you would love to hang in your home. And you will have the chance to chat with the artists, at a distance of course!

While respecting Ottawa Public Health protocols, visitors are invited to drop by on Fridays from 2 to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the end of December. The number of people allowed inside at one time will be carefully monitored, and everyone will be required to wear a mask and keep a 2-metre distance from others.

We look forward to welcoming you to our Community Pop-up Art Gallery at Lansdowne Park. You may discover a beautiful work of art that will bring you pleasure and joy for years. Come out to celebrate this community initiative and support local artists.
