The Glebe Community Association and the Glebe Business Improvement Area are cancelling the 2021 edition of the Great Glebe Garage Sale and Sidewalk Sale.

The decision to cancel recognizes that the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are not likely to make large community gatherings possible in Ottawa this spring.

The Great Glebe Garage Sale and Sidewalk Sale normally has important benefits for residents and businesses in the neighbourhood, for the environment and for charities that raise funds through the event every year. This is especially the case for the Ottawa Food Bank, which has been a priority for donations from residents’ sale proceeds since the sale was founded in 1986.
“Our neighbourhood normally celebrates spring and raises thousands of dollars for charities every year — especially the Ottawa Food Bank — through the Great Glebe Garage Sale. The sale also diverts tons of clothing, furniture and other items away from landfills,” says Colette Downie, Coordinator for the Sale for the Glebe Community Association. “Please consider donating to the Ottawa Food Bank through their website to help make up the sale shortfall. We also hope everyone can find ways to support our local Glebe businesses that are struggling at this difficult time.”“Our aim is to support the local economy and the immediate needs of our businesses however we can,” says Andrew Peck, Executive Director of the Glebe BIA. “Addressing the pandemic is the overarching priority right now, so we can one day return to the activities that bring people and our communities together.”
